About Me
I have been playing music for more than thirty years! In addition to my DipABRSM diploma in Clarinet performance, I have a PGCE teaching degree and have worked with local state schools, prep schools, churches and music hubs.
I enjoy teaching both children and adults and can help you pursue graded music exams, jazz improvisation, or simply help you enjoy the freedom of mastering an instrument.
I hold the following qualifications:
BA(hons) Music - York University
PGCE Secondary Music Teaching - Reading University
DipABRSM Clarinet Performance - Associated Board
Grade 8 Piano - Associated Board
Grade 7 Saxophone - Associated Board
Safeguarding Children Level 2 - iHasco
I am a member of the Musician’s Union, hold a full and recent DBS certificate and have public liability insurance.
Learn With Me
A typical lesson with me involves reviewing your progress against your goals, developing posture and technique, exploring music theory, and identifying expressive opportunities within each piece.
I am an experienced piano accompanist which enables me to add an extra dimension to your lessons, playing along with you to enrich your music-making experience.
I employ coaching techniques in my work to ensure that you are able to transfer what you learn to other musical contexts.
-
Clarinet is a hugely versatile instrument. Whether you are interested in performing solo, in orchestras or taking up Jazz, I can help you unlock your potential on this instrument.
You can hear me talk more about what the Clarinet can do on THIS EPISODE of the Kalenda music podcast where I was a guest collaborator.
-
Saxophone is a fun and sociable instrument. Students often find that they make rapid progress on this instrument due to the straight-forward technique.
Younger players often consider starting on an ALPHA SAX to make sure that the weight and size of the instrument isn’t a barrier to enjoyment.
-
Learning Piano provides an excellent foundation for a life of music!
Whilst many of my students enjoy learning with the goal of being able perform solo, several have found that their keyboard skills open the door to playing in bands or taking up music production and studying music technology. I will happily tailor my approach to any of these goals.

Whether you are learning with me, or studying a different instrument with your own teacher, I can provide piano accompaniment for your graded exam.
In most cases, we’ll agree two or three short rehearsals before the exam date to build your confidence and get to know each other.
On the day of the exam, I’ll meet you at the exam centre for a short warm up before we perform your pieces together to the examiner.
